A First-Timer’s Guide to NUBOXX

NUBOXX welcomes everyone, from total beginners to experienced boxers. Even if you’re new to exercise, we’ll empower you with the tools you need to get fit, become a great boxer, and condition your body and mind. Here’s how to start:

Booking Your First Class

We suggest starting with our Technical Boxing class, which hones in on the basic punches and technique to set you up for success in all the classes we offer.

It takes several Technical Boxing classes before the boxing moves start to feel comfortable. Stick with it and give yourself time to improve!

What you don’t need

Boxing Gloves

If you have gloves, feel free to bring them. Rental gloves are included in all Nubie options. After your first class, gloves can be rented for $2 per class.

Boxing Wraps

Boxing wraps are also included in the Nubie Options and available for purchase at $10.

Protective Gear

Beginners don’t need protective equipment because they don’t get hit. There is no sparring in any of our classes.

Arriving at Nuboxx

New clients should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time to get checked in, tour the space, and allow time for coaches to assist with your hand wraps and gloves. We want to make you feel comfortable and set you up for success!

Participants who are more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed to enter the class.

You can come ready for class or change when you get here. We have lockers with built-in locks at both our studios for you to store your belongings during class. Open cubbies are also available in the studio rooms.

Boxing wraps are critical to protect your wrists and prevent injury, and we help all our new clients to wrap their wrists tightly and comfortably. Going forward, our coaches are always available to help you get wrapped up correctly. Keeping you safe is our top priority so don’t hesitate to ask for help.

To get a head start on learning how to wrap your hands, watch our tutorial.

Both our locations have multiple hotel-style showers, vanities stocked with complimentary spa/bath products and hair dryers, and spacious changing rooms.

I was hesitant to try another boxing gym because other ones in DC can be a bit too boppy, dancey, dark and techno for me. This place has that small gym feel where the people are there for more than getting skinny, they really appreciate the craft and want to get better.”

New clients should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time to get checked in and allow time for the coaches to assist with your hand wraps and gloves. We suggest that existing members arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start of class.

Due to the nature of our classes’ timed interval format, participants who are more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed to enter the class.
